The Clown Who Poisons Children Print E-mail

My three year old calls him "The Clown Who Poisons Children". Is she accurate? We were at the supermarket and passed a life-sized statue. "Look daddy it’s the happy clown" said the three year old excitedly. I said "why are you so happy, he is a naughty clown." She replied "No he's not daddy he's a good clown." I was shocked, that at only three years of age, she had been so well conditioned by advertising. I said to her "No he is a very naughty clown. See those things he is holding in his hands, they are poison and he wants to give them to all the children". Now, at the supermarket, we often have a chat with the clown and tell him to stop poisoning the children.

Recently someone once told me to ‘get a grip’ and stop brainwashing my child. While I can understand their point of view in reality I am un-brainwashing my child.  Multimillion dollar marketing machines pitted against the minds of three year olds…….it just doesn't seem fair. Do you think a multimillion dollar add campaign should be directed at children selling them a product of questionable quality when they lack the conscious critical awareness to know how unhealthy it really is?

If you got "Smiley Dog" laughing and drinking radioactive soup on the television a certain percentage of children would nag there parents for radioactive soup.

Children are a sub-population who are too easily manipulated and they ought to be protected.

Perhaps these companies ought to be made to provide independent scientific proof that their products are nutritious, healthy and safe before they are given permission to advertise to small children.

What do you think?
