Many people feel stress in their daily lives. Stress can cause you to overeat, feel tired, and not want to do anything. Regular physical activity can give you more energy. Try some of these other ideas to help relieve stress and stay on track with your fitness and nutrition goals:
- Get plenty of sleep.
?Practice deep breathing while relaxing your muscles one at a time.
- Take a break and go for a walk.
- Take short stretch breaks throughout the day.
- Try taking a yoga or tai chi class to energize yourself and reduce stress.
- Try a new hobby, like a pottery class or any activity that sparks your interest.
- Surround yourself with people whose company you enjoy.
A balanced eating plan, regular physical activity, and stress relief can help you stay healthy for life.
Kerya  - Getting the “KICK” back into your life. |2009-10-08 08:58:34
I have always been meaning to join a martial arts club as a youngster, but never did have the chance to commit to the idea. As I got older, I’d noticed that work life was beginning to take hold of most of my time and there wasn’t much inspiration to keep my fitness up. Our busy lifestyles and the commitments of adulthood mean our health sometimes meant it was less of a priority. The time to take care of oneself, and the simple pleasures such as the enjoyment of past time hobbies and sports no longer existed, although these were often important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

A couple of years ago, I decided to commit to martial arts. Being female, I thought it was important to gain some skills in self defence. I also wanted to get my fitness back. During these couple of years of martial arts training, I began to appreciate what martial arts meant. Many people may see martial arts in association to violence and aggression. I beg to differ. Martial arts paves the way to outer and inner peace. It is all about balance, in my opinion. It encourages personal and physical well-being; promoting the practitioner with discipline, courage, self-control, wisdom, focus and direction. It is basically a journey of self-discovery and development.

I’ve grown to learn, that every significant achievement in life requires these fundamental aspects. Along the way, I learnt about my limitations as a woman, my strengths and weaknesses whilst improving upon my mental and emotional well-being. But I must say, martial arts is not for the faint-hearted. It required effort, commitment and discipline, not to mention courage (although that can be developed). I am a step away from achieving a black belt, and looking back, the friends and skills I have acquired and the lessons I have learnt from martial arts, has enriched my life.

Kim  - Don't take up smoking, it's hard to quit |2009-10-12 23:41:05
I started smoking at 15, not because it was cool it was my home life that I was struggling with and smoking seemed to relieve my stress. At age 17 I tried to give up cold turkey and became The Grouch from Hell, at 18 I tried the nicotine gum and quickly spat it out as it was so disgusting. At 19 I tried again to give up cold turkey and managed to last 3 weeks, then stress got the better of me and so did the cigarettes. Over the past 28 years I've tried tying elastic bands around the cigarette pack to stop me from smoking, hiding the pack in a drawer, more cold turkey, homeopathic spray, even a youtube video!! I haven't tried the patches as I've been advised by my doctor that the patches are not suitable for me due to a health problem.

I know I want to give up the smokes but actually being able to do it is the hardest part, it's really hard to break the habit of buying them as well as smoking them.

You would think that the cost alone would have made me stop, smokes have cost me roughly $70000 as well as my health.

Willpower alone just hasn't been enough for me yet, but I will keep trying to give them up, I have to not just for my own sake but also for my families sake.
alisa  - Help free me from anxiety and panic attacks. |2009-10-16 04:31:43
I have had a sudden horrible year filled with panic attacks and anxiety. It has prevented me from leading a normal life. I have had trouble driving, working and doing everyday things others may take for granted. I have not been able to go out to restaurants, parties or busy shopping centres.

I would like to feel 'normal' again, be able to work and attend gatherings with family and friends. I would like to have the independence again and the ability to sit and just drive without anxiety.

It would be a life changing experience for me if this sudden anxiety could be helped.
Ange  - Help!! |2009-10-24 05:30:50
I really need help. I have always been over weight and have tried so many different ways to lose it. I am around 170cm and weigh 84kilos.

It is coming up to Summer and I have no confidence. I constantly wear pants and a jumper to cover up. I have never owned a pair of bathers because I am too scared to even look at myself in the mirror in them. It would be a life changing experience for me. Please help me feel good about myself.
