Emma Trueman  - Tip for anxiety attacks |2010-05-12 01:57:30
I used to suffer terribly from anxiety attacks, and I used this trick to help me overcome them, particularly if I felt one starting while out in public. It's very simple, and people need not even know you're doing it. Touch your thumb to your little finger, then ring finger, then middle, index, then back to middle, ring, little finger. Really concentrate on doing this. I found that it helped me focus on something other than the anxiety, and after a while I'd do it automatically....then with this, and other therapies, I eventually stopped suffering altogether.
Joel  - Change of mindset - My story |2010-05-12 16:06:18
I used to weigh more than 100+, worked in a high pressure environment for 14-18 hours every day, kept quiet when managers tried to pressure me further by increasing workload and saw that no gal was attracted to me because I didn't have the time nor the attitude (forget about the looks). I would come home, eat, sleep and wake next morning to go to work. Everyone would tell me that I was fat and needed to do something about it and I would feel bad.

I started spending time online reading articles and realized that I needed to change my mindset more than anything else because I had tried dieting and exercising before but it hadn’t worked out for me. Hence, I started off slowly by including fruits I liked (like watermelon and bananas) in my diet instead of following what was listed as healthy on websites. I started going for walks, not brisk walks or anything but just admiring the scenery and would do so for an hour.

As the days went by, I managed to increase the length of time walked, the speed walked and also the way I was breathing (only through nose and deep heavy breaths). I used the stairs where possible and parked my car far away so that I could walk a bit. I also started eating cereals for breakfast to increase fiber, pasta with some plain boiled meat / fish / tuna for lunch and fruits for dinner. Since fruits are light, I found it easier to wake up in the morning. I started drinking about 3 liters of water everyday which meant I had to go quite a bit to the washroom but it helped. Only on weekends, I would eat something else but in limit. I also ensured that I did not sleep immediately after eating.

In 5 months, I lost 8 kilos from every part of my body including my stomach; people around me noticed the change in my attitude which had become friendlier. I became more active. At the end of the 5 months, I was walking for around 2-3 hrs, even if I came home late at night, I would force myself out. Managers also realized there was something different about me and their attitude towards me changed.

I had not spent a single penny more and in fact saved money by eating healthy food.
In addition, shortly after that I got engaged to a beautiful and sweet girl.

To sum it up, I spent no extra money, just changed my lifestyle by altering my breathing to become slow and deep, by changing my diet to fruits, vegetables and nuts I liked and just walked around as much as possible, although towards the end, I used to walk pretty fast as I felt lighter and more energetic.

Forget about what others think and just believe in yourself and ALWAYS ‘SMILE’, A positive attitude can do wonders for you :D

Cheers,

Have a great day
Natacha  - Beat Anxiety! |2010-07-04 05:42:39
I do believe that anxiety is a psychological condition HOWEVER i strongly believe certain foods can increase or decrease the level of anxiety.

Since researching this...i found that my diet and lifestyle was playing havoc with my nervous system.

From my own personal experience, avoiding, limiting or increasing the foods listed below have helped me immensely! I hope it helps you also.

Certain foods that can trigger anxiety are...

SOY - Limit or avoid! soy based products. Soy is a plant hormone that can interfere with a woman's hormone levels. This was the main cause for me!

CAFFEINE - Limit or avoid! Caffeine is a stimulant that can make you feel jittery and nervous and interfere with sleep.

ALCOHOL - Limit or avoid! The immediate effect of alcohol may be calming for most people. But as alcohol is metabolized by your body, it can cause anxiety-like symptoms.

WATER - drink plenty of water, Even mild dehydration can affect your mood.

VITAMIN B12 + SALMON OIL - are excellent for a healthy nervous system!

REIKI is also fantastic way to cleanse your body of nervous energy.

Exercise will tire you and enable you to sleep better.

Read a good book, it relaxes your mind and body.

Before you consider an anti-depressant or an anti anxiety medication, have a look at your lifestyle and eating habits

Good Luck and hope this helps anyone suffering from anxiety. Remember...you are not alone!
Tiffiny Beamish  - Insomnia Relief |2010-07-04 05:40:54
I have suffered insomnia for more than 6 months after going through a stressful period in my life - divorce, facing life as a single mum with a young child, property settlement, moving house etc.

There were nights when I would average 0 to 2 hours sleep a night. When this lasted 2 or more days I would become really emotional, barely coping with the day ahead.

I have tried many different treatments and spent at least a $1000 on various products. However when you are stressed and have so much on your mind meditation, chamomile tea, warm baths, herbal pills etc do not help.

I found the best and most obvious insomnia relief is to concentrate on eliminating the cause of the stress. I found if I was stressed and worried throughout the day it would still continue into the night so I really tried to distract myself during the day so I would not worry. Another way of putting it is STRESSED DURING THE DAY = STRESSED DURING THE NIGHT. It is much easier to sort out through your problems during the day than at 3am. Things that use to bother me, eg. my ex husband dating someone else no longer bothers me. These problems are temporary and in a few years time I would wonder what all the fuss is about. Also what helped me is to get in touch with my Buddhist side ( does not matter what religion you are). Concentrate on thinking in the present and that these difficult situations will pass.
Insomnia does not last forever.
