Barbara  - Don't Give Up Smokes - Have One Less Each Day |2010-04-07 01:09:08
Many people who want to give up smoking, and want to do it on their own, reach for the nicotine patches and sticks. Do they help? Quite possibly, but if the patches are injecting nicotine into the body, shouldn't they be banned as well as cigarettes? It seems to me that the cure can be just as bad as the problem.

Is there an alternative to the patches? Of course!

For a start, stop telling yourself that you want to give up smoking. The effect is the same as someone saying they're going on a diet - and then find that every second tv ad is a chocolate commercial!

Instead, tell yourself each morning that you will smoke one less cigarette today than you did yesterday.

Say, for example, you smoke 20 cigarettes a day. Today you smoke 20. Tomorrow you smoke 19. The day after that you smoke 18. And so on.

It's that simple.

The body still gets its nicotine hit - but the amount is being reduced.

No willpower or discipline needed - except to have the right number of cigarettes in the pack each day!!

I truly believe I need this opportunity before I become another statistic.

I finished elite rhythmic gymnastics a couple of years ago and ever since then I have become lazy and not willing to do exercise. I used to train every day for almost 6 hours and now I do nothing and eat 10 times as more.

I really need this help as I feel so down about myself and my family and getting angry with me because I shouldn't be this way.

Thank you.

I am very sacred of dark specially when I had a conversation or watch about something scary. I do feel like I am going to see something or hear something. Just can not focus studying or even watching something on television by myself. I can not sleep bed myself. I just wonder hypnotherapy can change this situation

Ashleigh  - It's all in your environment |2010-07-04 05:44:31
Can you imagine that feeling when you stand on the scales and you've finally met your goal weight? Or you pull out your 'skinny' jeans and they do up for the first time in years? Or maybe you have someone tell you that you're beautiful and for once- you believe it.

In my job I get to feel that joy every day when I see members I support and encourage reach their goal. Even if it was just to lose 2kg in a month. The way their face lights up when they realize they've done it. Well, it's the reason I love my job.

I have a lot of empathy and compassion for people with weight issues, as I’m right in there with you. But from studying health sciences, being a personal trainer and living my own life, I know first hand what's truly important when it comes to life changes.

Your environment! Whether you wish to lose weight, quit smoking, or builds self esteem. To break a lifetime of habits, there is no quick fix. It takes determination and hard work. But never give up hope when you have people around you that share your vision and will be there for you every step of the way.

Anyone can lose weight, or quit smoking. But how long until you put it back on (and more), or pick up that smoke again. Education, support, and positive thinking. It's all in your environment.

Severe Clinical Depression Buster
My sister was diagnosed with Severe Clinical depression and Split personality disorder, she was on very heavy medication for 6 years and put on a lot of weight. we were told she would be like this for the rest of her life, all of a sudden she snapped out of it but recently nearly fell back in so this was her solution...
1st she quit her Job, but the change she has made which i can see has made the biggest difference is she goes to a gym every day where she has a personal trainer, she is there mostly 2 hours every day, regularly getting up at 4 am just to get there at opening time.

She used to sleep in till 2pm, so for her to be getting up at 4pm, still going to bed around 10/11pm it is safe to say she is over her depression.

I am one very proud sister

It is very difficult to want to be proactive about educating schools, family, friends and public in general about a mental health diagnoses when some of these people have a choice to respond with 'oh, I don't believe in that.'
The "visible illnesses" such as diabetes; epilepsy and asthma receive empathy and understanding from family and friends.
Schools are able to and receptive about setting up management plans for such students.
Bipolar disorder receives none of these accommodations.

The impact this major illness has on the student is profound; the impact on the family - each member, is huge and the incredible effort required just to keep this student at school is insurmountable.
Social contacts are lost; lost school hours due to psychology/psychiatry appointments; managing medications and side effects; managing desperately fatiguing mood swings from one hour to the next - exhausting.

Mental health "awareness" is not enough, while people have the option to dispute this major illness, leaving sufferers and their families desperately isolated.
pamela  - eating under stress |2010-03-21 10:22:35
Over the years , during times of tension, all the back to school busyness, band practice, soccer, ballet lessons, stress induced snacking has made my waistline thick and me reluctant to do the things I love. My biggest hurdle is cravings for crunchy carbs. The cravings kill all my weight loss efforts and the temporary mood boosting effects of indulgence simply leads to more stress.
Julie  - 3 step program to lose weight |2010-04-07 01:10:47
I am obese.

But I am changing.

Want to know how?

1.Eliminated the word 'diet' from your vocabulary.
Simple as that!
It's an evil word that will send an normally regular person into a frenzy of fear.

2.Agree with yourself we are actually allowed to eat!
I know it's an ongoing fight. I really do know!
But it is a necessary human function
Eating is about making our bodies healthier and better functioning.

3.Ask yourself 'is this making my body function better?' every time we put something near our mouths-instead of 'how many calories is this?'

With this method we will lose weight naturally and without the desperate struggle we usually face.
Kate  - I just want to feel normal |2010-03-29 11:59:36
I thought it was because I was fat so i lost weight.
I thought it was because I didn't dress with the times so i got a new wardrobe
I thought it was because I wasn't interesting so I took up some hobbies.
I've tried so many thing and achieved so much but I still can't stop myself from thinking that most people I meet, even friends I've had for years don't really like me. Even in some cases hate me and no matter what anyone says I can't shake this feeling.
I just want to feel normal.
victoria  - love thy self first and others will love you |2010-04-06 04:50:31
My son hated himself-"I'm ugly, I'm fat, Nobody loves me (we love him to pieces), My hair is horrible, my skin is horrible..." I don't want to do anything..."etc etc

You can tell someone how wonderful they truly are til you are blue in the face-to no avail. I know what my son needed-he needed endorphins-he needed to learn to feel good about the body he was in, and accept the quite adorable face God gave him.

So, I figured actions speak better than words-I took him to him first facial (aww Mum thats sooo gay!), I took him to a Personal trainer and Gym (Mum-how embarrassing!) and I bought him a hair straightener, gel and spray to style his hair as he wanted.

The result?-Mum-gotta go to gym now-see ya!, Mum-when is my next facial-that was nice, my pimples have gone, and I like that thing where they use oil, it makes me feel good and relaxes me-whats it called? "A massage" I replied.. and finally, :"Mum-wheres your hairspray-I'm going out with my girlfriend.".."Luv ya MUM."
