Limit the Sale of Cigarettes to Pharmacies Only Print E-mail

Apparently Al Qaida deliberately killed about 3000 people in one year. However cigarette companies deliberately kill hundreds of thousands every year. So who are the most successful terrorist?

Cigarettes are radioactive, mutagenic, toxic, and addictive and kill far more people than terrorism. Why are they being sold at the corner store?

A friend once told me, the difference between him being and not being drunk each night and shouting at his children was 10 degrees.  He went on to tell me how each night, on the way home from work, he battles to keep the steering wheel stationary as he drives past the liquor store. He said, on a bad night, all it takes is a 10 degree turn and he is into the service lane purchasing his alcohol.

Our teenagers emerge into an environment which has been specifically designed, by large corporations, to maximize the likelihood of them becoming on hooked addictive substances. Look more closely and you will see that most fast food, alcohol, and gambling venues are ‘outbound’. When you drive home full of stress and short of time, all it takes is a little turn and the problem is fixed. Smoking, gambling, overeating and drinking are some of the most effective and rapid forms of stress or boredom management. Is it the plan of these large corporations to get young adults hooked on one or more of these substances or behaviors?

We don’t allow bars or brothels to open opposite schools but we do sell radioactive, carcinogenic, toxic and addictive cigarettes right beside the chocolate bars. Doesn’t this seem a little strange?

Most of us would agree that every adult ought to be able to purchase cigarettes if they should so choose. Nevertheless, planning laws could and should be adjusted so that the option to purchase toxic and addictive substances is not presented every time a young adult walks into a shop. Companies ought to be made to prove their product is healthy and safe before they allowed to occupy prime real-estate or prime advertising space.

Limit the sale of cigarettes to pharmacies. Removing them from petrol stations and stores will help people quit and reinforce the message they are a dangerous drug. This will save far more lives than all of the anti-terrorism laws combined.
